In partnership with Yamaha Champions Riding School, every WMST beginner student receives access to the Champ U: New Rider Course immediately after registration.
This video-based program features 40 videos, 32 drills, and 43 quizzes designed to help you learn faster, ride safer, and get the most out of your in-person training.
Completing the Champ U: New Rider Program before your first class has been shown to dramatically increase success rates in both range performance and DOL testing. It sets you up to arrive prepared, confident, and ready to make the most of every minute on the motorcycle.
Champ U: New Rider helps you:

• Ride safer — students who complete Champ U before class consistently perform better on the bike.
Your Beginner Motorcycle Permit Qualifying Course includes two classroom sessions and two riding sessions focused on balance, throttle control, braking, turning, and hazard awareness. Both the DOL-approved knowledge test and skills test are included and completed during your course.
After passing, you’ll be ready to add your motorcycle permit to your Washington driver license.
Designed for riders with little or no motorcycle experience. If you’ve never operated a motorcycle or clutch, consider starting with our KickStart Course, which introduces basic controls and operation to ensure you’re comfortable and successful in your beginner class.
To enroll, you must be able to confidently ride a bicycle and understand the expectations of a beginner-level motorcycle course.
Safety is non-negotiable. You must bring and wear the following required riding gear to participate:
• Boots: Over-the-ankle, sturdy boots (no canvas, elastic, or high-tops; heel ≤ 1 inch).
• Gloves: Well-fitting mechanic or motorcycle gloves that allow full control of hand levers (no bulky gloves).
• Pants: Long jeans or heavy material with no holes or tears.
• Top: Long-sleeve shirt or jacket appropriate for the weather.
• Eye Protection: Glasses, sunglasses, goggles, or a helmet face shield.
• Helmet: Must meet DOT safety standards.
Per Washington DOL requirements, students cannot ride without proper gear. Arriving unprepared may result in tuition forfeiture.
You’ll receive a confirmation email from Motorcycle@GoWMST.com with your class details and Чемпион U login instructions. Review this confirmation carefully and arrive ready to ride.
After successfully completing your course, add your permit to your Washington driver’s license through the Department of Licensing (DOL).
