The course options
What you pay depends on which course fits your experience:
- KickStart, $159: a 3-hour intro for total beginners to see if riding is for you.
- Intermediate Permit, $269: for riders with some experience.
- 2-Wheel Endorsement, $269: the endorsement-focused course.
- Beginner Permit, $369: the full beginner course, bike and helmet included.
- 3-Wheel Endorsement, $579: for trikes and can-am style machines.
See them all on the courses page, with current prices and what each includes.
The DOL fee
On top of the course, the DOL charges an endorsement fee to add the motorcycle endorsement to your license once you bring in your course completion card. It is a modest amount compared to the course. Check the Department of Licensing for the current figure.
Course route versus DOL testing
You could skip a full course, get a permit, and test at the DOL to save on tuition. Most riders do not, for good reason. A course gives you a provided bike, a helmet, instruction, and the test all in one, and it waives the DOL exams. Factor in that many insurers discount premiums for riders who complete an approved course, and the course route often pays for itself in safety and savings.
